Building a seakayak - page 5
July 2007The two handles are done after sevaral patient hours of grinding.
July 2007Front bulkhead in place and fixed with wedges.
July 2007Here the bulkhead joint is filled with an elastic joint from Sikaflex. It's the same joint filler I use for
gluing the frame on the day hatch. Footrests are from Yakima and are installed on small blocks laminated to the hull.
By this you ca avoid drilling holes in the hull.
July 2007Here the hull has received it's fist layer of varnish. I use a clear Hempel Varnish Classic (single component).
July 2007Front hatch and deck is varnished. Small rotings have been made for finger grip and drains.
The small support behind is for the compass.
July 2007Here the boat is finished varnishing. Now only the hatches, deck lines, rubber bands and compass are missing.
The car in the background is my MG year 1953.
July 2007Attending kajak summit with the "Havkajakroerne" on island Taasinge. The kayak was finished varnishing on the
Sunday and on Monday the varish was still not dry enough for laying the kayak on the roof carriers. Had to postpone the departure one full
day and arrived for the summit on the Tuesday evening. Here I met with an other happy builder, Erik Frantzen from Nakskov. Vi reconished
on the spot each others kayaks and surged for the owner.
Kajakken blev så søsat onsdag d. 18. juli.
July 2007The proud kayak builder next to his kayak. The first trips were succesfull. A small leak at the fin had
to be fixed. On the first long trip to Aeroeskoebing it leaked several liters of water. It was relative easy fixed with some extra
Sikaflex. Even after a hole day with greenland roll there was not more than appr. 1 dl in the to cargo rooms, and day room was dry.
